Coping with Change from School to College / College to Uni
Moving from school to college, or college to university can be a fun and exciting part of your life, but it is completely normal to also feel anxious and overwhelmed about this transition. Learning is different at every stage of education, and you will need to give yourself time to adjust. Below are some hints and tips which will help you cope with this change…
Look after yourself – do not push yourself, take your time getting used to the changes and new environment around you, make time to do things which make you happy, eat a healthy diet and be active.
Plan – planning may seem like extra work, but it can be really beneficial in day-to-day life. Structuring your day or week will allow you to feel in control of the change and have a sense of accomplished when a task is finished; this could be as small as making your bed to finishing an assignment.
Talk about how you are feeling – Whether to a friend, family member, mental health professional or staff at college/university. Talking can allow you to understand your feelings and process them. This can make emotions seem easier to deal with, making you feel better.
