Kickstart Trainee Opportunities with Pop Recs

What is Pop Recs?

Pop Recs is a Sunderland based social enterprise music venue, community space and café and we’re excited to be opening our new place at 172-175 High Street West, Sunderland, SR1 1UP this summer.

Kickstart Trainees

Pop Recs are seeking 2 Hospitality and Catering Assistants to join their friendly team and help establish their brand even further. You’ll be involved with the whole team in a fun and exciting environment to help create delicious handmade savoury and sweet food and Neapolitan style pizza for their café, local businesses, home delivery service, and also provide great customer service in their café and music venue.

You’ll help looking after the kitchen, food prep areas, and cafe and music venue bar to ensure they are cleaned to a tip top standard, tidy and really organised. You will assist in cooking, stock takes, stock rotations, packaging items and bulk ordering. When working in the café or music venue, you will be expected to set up for opening, stock and restock, learn how to use the EPOS systems for payments and deliver a first-class service.

In order to be successful in this role, you must be a great communicator and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. A passion for both food and providing great customer service is expected, you must be able to work well as a team but also individually.

Through the KickStart Scheme Pop Recs are able to offer a minimum 25 hour per week placement (on national minimum wage) for six months where you’ll learn some new skills and gain hands on experience with a potential job opportunity at the end. Shifts will vary each week depending on booked gigs and community activities. Holiday entitlement will be pro rata, and you will be entitled to 2 weeks holidays spread out over the 6-month placement. You will be given a uniform, a free barista coffee each shift, 20% discount off all food & drink for the duration of your placement. You will also get the opportunity to hear some great live music if you’re working an event, and might even get to meet some bands!

  • Claiming Universal Credit
  • Aged 16-24 years of age at the time of applying
  • Referred by your Job Coach (we cannot accept applications made directly to Pop Recs – you must be given a unique referral code by your job coach)
