Sunderland Music Hub delivers, supports and champions music-making activity across the city. They aim to unlock musical potential and ensure young people have opportunities to progress regardless of their background. They give equal weight to all musical activity, whether formal or non-formal and regardless of instrument, genre or skill level and believe in the potential it has to change lives.
SEND Music Group for Families
Sunderland Music Hub are seeking eight families to join us for a series of online music workshops between January 12th and February 8th 2021.
The sessions, which will be delivered by Community Musician Ashleigh Lowes and Music Therapist Clare Hunt, will enable the service to build relationships with children with special educational needs and disabilities and their families with the intention of inviting families to attend an out-of-school project once it is safe to do so. The project is delivered in partnership with Sage Gateshead and will consist of a series of 30 minute bespoke online workshops for your child.
They know transition is particularly hard for young people in the city with SEND who may not join the same school as their peers, who may not get a space at a special school that is able to fully meet their needs. They hope, by providing a weekly space outside of school, young people in our city with SEND will feel connected.
Through the project, each family will receive:
- 1 x 30 minute meet the family workshop – a chance for session leaders to get to know your child and the family
- 3 x 30 minute bespoke workshops – music activity tailored to your child’s needs
- 1 x 30 minute group workshop – a chance to connect with another family taking part in the project
Each 30 minute workshop will take place on a Tuesday evening between 5 and 7pm and will commence on Tuesday 12th of January.
