What is Alcohol Awareness Week?

Alcohol Awareness Week is an annual campaign which aims to get people thinking about alcohol – how it affects us as individuals, families, communities and society as a whole. The campaign is coordinated by Alcohol Concern who have set the theme of ‘Alcohol and Families’

Join the call for better support for families and individuals suffering as a result of alcohol. Over 800 local authorities, charities and services are taking part in Alcohol Awareness Week 2017. That makes this the biggest Alcohol Awareness Week ever!

Where can I find information and support around alcohol?

There are several national organisations which provide lots of useful information around alcohol and it’s effects. The first of these is Alcohol Concern’s (the organisation which coordinates the campaign), they have a useful blog with lot’s of posts which you may find useful. There is also drinkaware, a website which contains a lot of information around alcohol including information on alcohol units and health effects of alcohol.

If you are concerned about how much alcohol you are drinking or would just like some support around cutting back there are several local organisations who can support you with this, for more information please click here to visit our Alcohol Awareness page.

If you’re not sure where to start or which organisation can offer the best support for you, a good place to start is by contacting either Live Life Well in Sunderland or Change4Life in South Tyneside. These organisations can offer appointments and advice as well as signpost you to more appropriate support if they aren’t the best organisation to support you.

How can I raise awareness of Alcohol Awareness Week?

Alcohol Concern are sharing information, resources and stories throughout the week on Facebook and Twitter. You can get involved on your own social media account by using the hashtag #AAW2017.
