Sunderland Home Grown New Youth Community Hub

Sunderland Home Grown (CIC) are based in Thompson Park, Southwick, Sunderland and have been there since 2017. Gary and Debbie run a garden nursery from the old council maintenance site and provide opportunities for adults with learning disabilities, people who are socially isolated and mental health problems by creating training and employment opportunities as well as promoting social and therapeutic horticulture.

The adults produce a vast range of bedding plants , hanging baskets and perennials for retail on site.

Debbie, Gary and the team work closely with the community, and work with community groups and organisations in the local area, providing plants etc for planters etc in Fulwell, and the city centre.

The team now want to extend their offer of working in the community to providing a community hub for youths aged 11+ to have somewhere they mix with other youths in an informal way, where they can meet safely and take part in activities if they wish to.

They have created a questionnaire to find out what the youths in the area would like to do in the community hub. Click here to take part… https://forms.gle/aDbpAeAg4BR8DgbW8
